We turned a living-room nook in this Bethel, CT home into a writer's library and home office.Custom built-in bookshelves were built around the perimeter of the room to house their collection. We painted them a rich sage green from Sherwin Williams and added soft uplighting to make the space warm and inviting. Once that was done, we changed out the railing at the stairs to give the space a more modern feel.
Built-ins are one of the few things you genuinely cannot buy off a showroom floor. Every wall in an older Connecticut home is a little out of square, and a custom build is what makes shelves look like they were always part of the house.
