Checkerboard floors are having a moment right now, but this kitchen was ahead of the trend.
When these repeat clients decided to renovate their kitchen, the checkerboard tile was already there — and they chose to keep it as part of the design. The homeowners designed the kitchen themselves, selecting the layout, materials, and finishes without a designer’s influence, which made this project a little different for us.
Our role was to bring their vision to life through the installation. That does not happen often, but it is always fun to see what homeowners dream up on their own.
The finished kitchen feels personal, classic, and full of character — with that existing checkerboard floor tying the whole space together.
