We wanted this bathroom to feel like it had always been here. The checkerboard marble floor and cream beadboard came first, and everything else was chosen to sit comfortably next to them. The deep plum above the chair rail is what makes the room feel finished instead of plain.
The clawfoot tub went under the window on purpose. It gets afternoon light, and the polished nickel floor-mount faucet with the handheld gives it a reason to be used and not just looked at.
For the shower we kept the entry curbless and let the cream subway tile run floor to ceiling. The marble bench and pebble floor add warmth underfoot, and the hex mosaic niche gives the eye somewhere to land. The exposed thermostatic valves, rain head, and slide bar handheld were a deliberate choice. They look period-correct and they are easy to live with.
The double vanity is dark stained wood with a marble top and cross-handle faucets, set between brass sconces and beveled mirrors. The heated towel rack was one of those small additions the homeowners now say they would not go without.
